Planning to invest, relocate, and continue working from Cyprus?
NAKLAW advises on the Cyprus Work Permit for Investors, helping you understand what your investor residence allows, whether your proposed role fits the rules, and whether a separate employment route is required.

Residence + investment
Work & corporate guidance
Under the current expedited investor policy, the principal applicant and spouse must generally confirm they do not intend to work in Cyprus.
Investor PR does not itself provide unrestricted employment rights. A separate appropriate employment/residence route may need to be considered.
The policy allows employment as a director of the company in which the qualifying investment was made, subject to the applicable conditions.
Shareholding is permitted in certain circumstances even where the qualifying investment was not made in that company's share capital.
The investor and/or spouse may hold an unpaid director position in such Cyprus companies under the investor policy.
We assess the appropriate Cyprus employment and immigration route separately to ensure full legal compliance before you start.
The official investor policy expressly distinguishes residence rights from employment rights, which makes reviewing your intended activity before you start working important.
Employee, director, shareholder or investor?
We determine whether the proposed activity fits your investor residence status.
If investor PR is not sufficient, we identify the appropriate employment/residence option.
We assist with the applicable immigration, employment and corporate documentation.
First establish what you want to do in Cyprus. Then establish what permission you need.
The title you use matters less than what you actually do.
If your €300,000 qualifying investment is in the share capital of an eligible Cyprus company, the investor policy provides an exception that allows you to work as a director of that company. The qualifying company itself must meet the relevant investor-policy conditions, including physical presence in Cyprus and at least five employees.
Where your qualifying investment is made through another permitted category, such as property, you may still hold shares in Cyprus companies and receive dividends. The investor policy also permits an unpaid director role in such companies.
This requires separate attention. Cyprus has distinct residence and employment permit routes for third-country nationals, including specific frameworks for qualifying employees of companies of foreign interests.
You plan to take paid employment that is not covered by your investor-PR exception.
Your qualifications and employment may fit a specialized immigration route.
You will work for a qualifying Cyprus company of foreign interests.
Your proposed activity does not fit the employment limitations attached to investor PR.
Cyprus requires third-country nationals employed by companies of foreign interests to hold the appropriate temporary residence and employment permit. Other employment categories and the EU Blue Card framework may also be relevant depending on the applicant and role.
The biggest mistake is treating these as one question:
They are not necessarily the same.
How you legally reside in Cyprus
What work/business activity you perform
Whether additional permission is required
NAKLAW reviews all three before advising how to proceed.
For an investor, a work-permit question can quickly become a corporate + immigration + residence question.

Following the accession of Cyprus in the EU in 2004 and the abolition of the "offshore regime", Cyprus has maintained a simplified and effective tax system in full compliance with the EU and the OECD.
As a result of the above Cyprus has become a stable EU, "non-offshore" low tax jurisdiction with a beneficial tax regime for foreign businesses and individuals as well as a safe professional business environment.
Cyprus has one of the lowest-taxation rates within the EU, with a flat tax rate at 15% on profit. Cyprus offers additionally to its tax benefits, great advantages as a respectful and useful jurisdiction for holding companies.
It is important to indicate that the business climate in Cyprus is based on a free and open economy, offering first-class legal and financial expertise. It's very easy to fly in and out of Cyprus throughout the year.

Not without considering the employment restrictions attached to the investor route. The current Regulation 6(2) policy generally requires the applicant and spouse not to undertake employment, subject to specific exceptions.
The investor policy permits employment as a director where you chose the qualifying Cyprus-company share-capital investment route and the relevant conditions are satisfied.
Yes. The policy allows investor-permit applicants and/or spouses to be shareholders in Cyprus companies in circumstances described by the policy, and dividend income does not itself prevent obtaining the permit.
The current policy permits an investor and/or spouse to hold an unpaid director position in relevant Cyprus companies where the investment itself does not concern that company's share capital.
You may need a different Cyprus residence and employment authorization. NAKLAW can assess your proposed employment against the available immigration route rather than relying on the investor permit alone.
